Cody Parkey Kickoff Tracker and Contest: Lambeau Field Edition

Another edition of the Cody Parkey kickoff tracker and contest is here following Monday night’s fun spectacle that had the Eagles rookie plenty busy — kicking off eight times.

If today plays out the way many expect, Parkey will have plenty of opportunities again. The catch is he will do it in cold weather for the first time in his career. Temperatures in Lambeau are expected to be hover around 20 degrees at kickoff and drop as the sun sets.

I ain’t worried, but if you want to take that into consideration when making your guess, go for it.

Tweet at me (@drewBbalis) before kickoff today guessing the number of touchbacks Parkey has AND the Packers average starting field position on his kickoffs (far right column of the chart — sans brackets)

Get your guesses in so as not to piss of Claude Giroux, and stay tuned for a big announcement to our contest coming on Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

I got 6 and 21. Your chart will of course be updated throughout the afternoon as always.

Cody Parkey Kickoff Tracker and Contest: Monday Night Panthers Edition

Happy Monday morning, folks.

It’s a good Monday because in about 12 hours, the Eagles are on Monday Night football against a somewhat struggling Carolina Panthers team. Mark Sanchez will be tasked with trying to pull a Jeff Garcia almost eight years later.

I am not sure how I feel about that, but I feel good should the game rest on Cody Parkey’s leg — as the Eagles other appearance on Monday Night did this season. Back in Week 2 against the Colts, Parkey endured his only miss of the season but got redemption with a game-winning 36-yard field goal at the final horn as Nicky Foles out dueled Andrew Luck in the fourth quarter.

Enough reminiscing for now though, you know why we’re here.

Tweet at me (@drewBbalis) before kickoff tonight guessing the number of touchbacks Parkey has AND the Panthers average starting field position on his kickoffs (far right column of the chart — sans brackets)

I have sat out the contest over the past couple of weeks giving folks a chance to catch up to me, but my guess tonight will be 4 and 19.

Do the damn thing, dawgies. Claude Giroux is a friend of Cody Parkey. He would want you to play our contest, and you don’t want to disappoint your captain, do you? I didn’t think so.

Your leaderboard, stats, and chart which will be updated throughout the game is below:

Admiring Cody Parkey’s Kickoffs at the Bye Week

We cannot have a Cody Parkey kickoff contest without Cody Parkey kickoffs today, but we can still admire the work of the Eagles rookie kicker through six games:

Normally we do individual game by game tables, but today, we have molded everything into one giant chart:

Drew, that chart is big and scary, and I tried to read it but got lost.

I hear ya, folks. Let me pull a few relevant numbers for you:

  • 38 kickoffs in six games
  • 35 of those kickoffs in the end zone
  • 22 of those kickoffs for touchbacks
  • Average starting field position of 20.84

Not to mention Parkey is 12-for-13 on field goals and a perfect two for two from beyond 50 yards out. Howie Roseman and Chip Kelly look real smart right now for pulling the plug on Alex Henery and taking a chance on the Auburn rookie.

#BlackSunday Cody Parkey Kickoff Distance Tracker and Contest

You folks ready for tonight?

Of course you are. In some situations, the Sunday Night game can be torturous, like having to sit around all day on Week 17 last year, but it has been kinda nice today just to take in some other football.

You guys know the drill with game time about three hours away now:

Tweet at me (@drewBbalis) before kickoff tonight guessing the number of touchbacks Parkey has AND the Giants average starting field position on his kickoffs (far right column of the chart — sans brackets).

Guessing the correct number of touchbacks is worth one point while predicting the right field position is worth two. Field position is rounded to the nearest whole number.

For tonight, I’m rolling with (4,22), and you are cordially invited to make your guess before 8:30 p.m.

Updated Stats:

  • 32 kickoffs in five games
  • 29 of those kickoffs in the end zone
  • 18 of those 32 kickoffs for touchbacks
  • Average starting field position of 20.75 or 21 if you will

Updated Leaderboard:

Drew Balis — Three points

Cory Sprankle — Two points

Evan Kalikow — One point

Gavin Steinhubl — One point

Exhale: An Eagles Victory Haiku

So…That was weird.

What was on track to be a relaxing victory turned into the type of afternoon where you don’t have any fingernails left come 4 p.m.

I cannot go into a ton of observational details as I was trying to watch on a shaky live stream that didn’t completely hold up in the second half.

The only thing I do have to offer is that his type of escape act is becoming a characteristic of the Chip Kelly coached Eagles (Think both 2013 Redskins games along with the Arizona game last year), but to the team’s credit, there has not been a time where the Eagles actually lost a game after letting a seemingly buried team back in the game late.

This is a weird team. The defense is opportunistic but below average on third down. At times, Billy Davis looks like a head coaching candidate directing the defense. He makes me tweet something like this:

And then five minutes later he reminds you why he failed as a defensive coordinator in San Francisco and Arizona last decade.

Jeremy Maclin is good. So is Cody Parkey. The secondary (aside from Brandon Boykin, who rarely plays, and Malcolm Jenkins) is not good. Neither is Marcus Smith. LeSean McCoy and Nick Foles have been inconsistent to say the least, but birds are off to their best start since 2006.

At least one person this week is going to refer to the Eagles as the ‘worst 4-1 team ever.’ I don’t believe that, and nor do I care. There are certainly issues to worry about, but this team is 1.5 yards away from being 5-0 and undefeated.

Let’s hit the haiku and look forward to Giants week:

Live stream stopped working

Defense almost did as well

Somehow four and one
