Over a two-year span, I produced 375 pieces of content for Onward State.
Below is small list of selected work that I am proud of. Hopefully the chosen clips provide a little insight into who I am and what makes me tick.
Examining the Paul Jones Love Affair (April 2012) — I wrote this story after the spring game in 2012 about former Penn State quarterback Paul Jones. While Jones’ career in Blue and White never panned out the way many envisioned, he was at the time an easy kid to root for.
Nittany Lions Mount Comeback to Defeat Northwestern (October 2012) — This was my game story from one of the most dramatic wins of the short but unforgettable Bill O’Brien era.
Counting Down the Most Memorable Penn State-Ohio State Games (October 2012) — Leading up to a much anticipated showdown against the undefeated Buckeyes, I did a 5-part series looking back at the best games in the rivalry since Penn State had joined the Big Ten. Several fans were interviewed and featured prominently in the series.
Learning to Accept Change Through Football (November 2012) — I used to hate change. Penn State used to hate change. Match made in heaven, right? Well, sometimes change is inevitable and everyone is better for it.
2012 Team to Be Honored on Beaver Stadium Facade (November 2012) — I didn’t always break a ton of news, but this was a big one. The story should speak for itself.
THON 2013 Live Blog (February 2013) — THON is an absolute blast to cover in person. You can check out a few of the stories I produced THON weekend along with some fantastic work by my fellow Onward Staters.
Countdown to Blue-White / 8 Days: Will Bill O’Brien’s Run-Pass Ratio Change in 2013 (April 2013) — Combining some numbers with traditional reporting is the best.
Countdown to Blue-White / 4 Days: Will Penn State Be as Aggressive on Fourth Down in 2013 — (April 2013) Another example of what I mentioned above. This took some time to research and was definitely worth it.
Redshirt Season has Lewis Primed to Be a Playmaker (April 2013 — This is a brief profile I wrote on then redshirt freshman receiver Geno Lewis at the conclusion of spring practice. Great kid and I look forward to seeing how the rest of his college career plays out.
Senior Column: Never Settle for Mediocrity (April 2013) — I pull this up every now and then when I need a pick-me-up.
Big Ten Media Days Live Blog (July 2013) — Easily the coolest thing I have ever done in the world of sports media. I produced nine stories over a whirlwind two days including this feature on middle linebacker Glenn Carson. Chicago is an awesome city, and I hope to have a reason to return one day.
